LANDS-AGES-MUSEUMS ASSOCIATION
Accentuated Public Benefit Oganisation's
CLUB in SZEKSZÁRD

If you like tripping, good walks, tours, traveling on narrow gauge railway, and are would like to be member of a companionship open to new knowledge, but free from day's politics; if you like visiting well-, and less-known museums, region houses, private collections, arboretums, and are interested in the history, art, natural and built sightlines of your home; with other words if you would like to get known with your land of birth and its wider surroundings, then you belong here!!!

The Lands-Ages-Museums (LAM) Movement started in autumn 1977, the Association was founded in 1985. The Szekszárd Club was formed four years later, in 1989 with 23 members. The number of our members increased dynamically throughout the years, this year we registered 422 members. With this, we became the largest club of the country. Our club was formed to a regional center during the years, with the center in Szekszárd, nearly 20% of our members lives in the surrounding towns and townships, but some joined us from neighboring counties and even from the capital.

We hold our club meetings regularly every two weeks, Thursdays in the Wosinsky Mór County Museum. We set up the yearly programs every January, together with the leadership of the museum, and complete it on the first meeting, after the member's proposals, in accordance with the aims of the clubs articles. These aims are: getting known with, keeping and augmenting the natural, historical, constructional and cultural values of the surrounding world, helping in the formation of a real history approach, and of the attachment to the mother country, to the place of living; and inciting healthy life, and collective acting for the community's interests.

Our offers attract attention on the cultural values. With the regular programs, our club provides opportunities for getting known with the local history and the sights of the town, the county, and also of more distanced townships. By spending the spare time together in a useful way, we endeavor to unfold, keep and develop local habits. Besides the expert-guided viewing of the county's museums and its filials, we also visited the Bogár-farm in Szekszárd, the Petrits Gingerbread Museum, the folk handicraft pottery of Endre Csúcs, the studios of the sculptor couple György Fusz - Ildikó Kiss, Pál Farkas, and László Szatmári Juhos, sculptors. We also visited several different private collections: e.g. József Renkecz's ethnography-collection in Uzd, the clock and watch collection of György Schmidt in Várdomb, the Tale Gallery of Mariann Gáti in Fadd, the blue-dye workshop and museum of the Horváth family. The latter is the only remained blue-dye workshop in the county. Since the establishment of the club, we became acquainted with several sights, museums, private collections, castles, national parks and nature conservation areas of Hungarian cities and even of some settlements from abroad.

Our scientific-documentary presentations and film showings connected to anniversaries, illustrious events, and our county-and country trips have the main aim, to provide as many knowledge and information as possible about the illustrious people, main events, history, cultural and natural values in our place of living.

The materials, which introduce the LAM club's activities, like memorial albums, postcards, movies, digital photographs made up of photographs taken and offered by the club members are accessible to all members, and can be viewed on demand.
